Oh Baby!

No, I'm not pregnant...but nearly 50% of my friends are!  So the past three months I've been purchasing more from Buy Buy Baby and Target Baby Registries than I would normally like to see show up on my bank statement.  BUT, I'm so happy for all the gals that are preggers.

Saturday, we had a shower for our friend Mary Ann in Elgin, SC.  Thank GOD for Pintrest!  (Warning: it's crack)  I "stole" two ideas from there and they were a total success!

quack.
Not only was this punch CUTE, but it was actually pretty tasty!

my wish for Mary Elizabeth
The dream tree served as the centerpiece and was a total hit with the ladies that attended!  Mary Ann can now take the cards and put them in Mary Elizabeth's baby book.

Brooke, if you're reading this...you may or may not see both of these ideas in the near future!

Speaking of Brooke-tini...her shower is coming up in about 3 weeks!  I am so glad I was able to get the invitations created and mailed out before the shower on Saturday...I hate getting invites so close to the date!  If you don't know me already, I'm cheap...so I busted these out in Powerpoint, fine tuned in Photoshop and...
Again, I'm super excited for all you gals that are expecting...but I'm tired.  So, if I show up to your shower not wanting to play "how big is mommy's belly"...forgive me.  I'm kinda over it.

Bitter?  no...
Jealous?  a little...
Tired?  abso-freaking-lutely.

Cheers Y'all!

From Groupon-ies to VIPs

The whole saying "from rags to riches" always bothered me...not sure why, just thinking of rags kind of grosses me out.  But I had a "rags to riches" experience last night...

A couple of months ago, Groupon had a deal for Ke$ha tickets - $15 lawn seats.  Pretty good, right?  Well we thought so too...so Andrea and I bought them.

After sleazing it up at Andrea's house, we headed over to the NC Music Factory.  Hundreds of 18-20 year old girls were lined up to get in the doors...thankfully, there was a beer garden nearby.

VGBG is probably my new favorite place!  Very laid back atmosphere, HUGE patios with nothing but long picnic tables lined up.  Think Oktoberfest...but outside and - with what I would assume - way better music!  This place has nothing but craft beers from all over.  If you walk in here and order a Bud, you'll probably get a weird look. One of the coolest things I've seen - bordering the bar area, there's a frost rail that serves as your resting place for beverages.  It's refrigerated, so you set your beverage there and it stays cold!  Brilliant!

VBGB Beer Hall and Garden
Ok, so back to the story.  Oddly enough, Andrea and I were sitting at the very bench that is in the photo above.  Lots of people watching - good stuff!  So this guy comes and sits at the corner of the bar next to me and starts reading the long list of beers, and asking the bartender which one he should try.  They decided on one and then the bartender asks "what size?  We have 12oz, 17oz, and 24oz - she's (points at me) got a 17oz."  Without hesitating, I looked at the guy and said "Well you have to at least get a 17oz - otherwise you look like a sissy" - or something along those lines.  We laughed and didn't really talk much more.

He and his friend were getting ready to leave and I asked him how did the 17oz-er treat him.  He said "not as well as the free ones in VIP will be".  I told him "you win".  Next thing I know, he's asking me to write mine and Andrea's name on a piece of paper and that our names will be on the list for VIP in the concert.

Holy crap!  That JUST happened!  At this point, we have no idea where or what VIP is at this venue...so I just walked around flashing this guy's business card and being directed to different people.  Finally we found the VIP check in and headed up - it was the bar inside the Fillmore.

Upon walking in, LMFAO was sitting there - knocking back beers with who looked to be their parents or grandparents.  Weird.  For being such a party-rockin' band, they were really laid back!  We found Ron, the guy from VBGB, and he ordered us beers.

Turns out, Ron is the Vice President of key accounts for Live Nation.  Basically, this guy sweet talked Time Warner Cable into sponsoring the amphitheater we were at.  He's kind of a big deal.

So, there we are in VIP, chattin' it up with Ron...watching the crew get LMFAO's crazy props set up to take out onto the stage...drinking free booze, in the AC!

Ron asks "Where are yall's seats?"...I replied "See that crazy girl dancing in the back of the lawn area?...yea, we're right next to her I'm sure".  Ron says "You guys got Lawn seats?"  (as if it were the worst mistake of our lives).  Then we told him how we got the tickets on Groupon...he then started calling us Grouponies.  Haha!  He says, stay right here, I'll be back in a few.

About 10 minutes later, Ron comes back in and says "follow me".  LMFAO is ROCKING it at this point!  Ron slaps some wristbands on us and leads us to a VIP box section.  Yea, that JUST happened!  Andrea and I looked like we had just been taken in off the streets and put up in the Ritz!  We were stoked!

We danced, and danced, and danced to LMFAO - then headed back to VIP to get more beers between sets.
LMFAO
Ke$ha was AMAZING!  It was basically a HUGE party with thousands of people!
KE$HA
Ron came down to the VIP box and sat with us for a bit, and when it was time for him to go (first encore) he asked us "You two wanna go see Tim McGraw and Luke Bryan tomorrow night?"  Um HECK yea we do!  He and Andrea exchanged numbers and just like that, we made a new friend!
GLITTER CANNON

So, thanks to Ron, our night went from "good" to "incredible"!

And that's the story about going from groupon-ies to VIPs!

Time to Get Personal...

I know I have been posting a lot about reality television, but the reality is I do it because I haven't had many exciting things to talk about in my life lately...until this past weekend.  I never meant for this blog to get to a personal level, but I feel like I need to share some things.  Prepare yourself, you're about to learn a lot about me in a few minutes...some things I have never even told my family.

After sitting in traffic that extended my travel time to McClellanville by 2.5 hours, I finally arrived at my dad's house.  I was exhausted, but also very excited to see him.  The next morning, we went fishing in the creek and had some wonderful conversations.  We haven't had daddy-daughter time in a long time - we needed to catch up...and we did.  It's funny how conversations change with your parents as you get older.  I remember talking to him about my goals in life after college (ha) and what I wanted to be when I grew up.  Now I'm talking to him about my career and how much I miss seeing him more often than once a month.  He always jokes about how he wants me to move back home..."just pack up and move" he says.  I wish it was that easy...

We caught fish, drank beers, talked and shared a lot of laughs!  All in all, it was a great day!  I miss daddy-daughter time.

Time for some background...

For anyone who doesn't know me that well, my parents have been divorced for a long time now.  The effects of the divorce have changed so much thru the years.  Before you get all "poor girl from a broken home" on me, let me explain.  My parent's divorce was not a "nasty" one.  I was in 4th grade - I remember that because I had a purple cast from shoulder to wrist the majority of that year from a gymnastics injury.  I remember them sitting me down to tell me that Daddy was going to live with his cousin in McClellanville for a while.  I remember staring at that cast...reading all the signatures, realizing that my friends that had signed it were all waiting on me to come over for a sleep over.  I didn’t really understand it at the time.

When I was younger, meaning not old enough to drive myself, the fact that my dad was now living in McClellanville was AWESOME!  He'd come pick me up on Friday afternoons (meeting my mother half way) every other week.  The best part about going to McClellanville was that I got to hang out with April and Michael, my first cousins.  Again, if you don't know me that well, I'm an only child...so April and Michael are the closest things I have had to a brother and sister.  We always had fun together!  And when I wasn't hanging out with them, Dad was taking me fishing and hunting - ok, I only went deer hunting once...apparently I asked too many questions and couldn't shut up.  Go figure.  Either way, as a teenager having these two separate homes was like having a vacation every other weekend.

As I got older, it got harder to split the time between the two of them.  I lived with my mom in Mt. Pleasant and all my friends were there.  Once I could drive, I chose to drive to my friend's houses in Mt. Pleasant instead of driving to McClellanville on the weekends.  I know this hurt my dad...he never said it, but I know it did.  Every other week visits soon turned into bi-monthly visits, and those turned into once a month visits.  It was hard on him…I know that now.

Once I left for college, it once again got harder.  When I would come home on the weekends to visit I would have to split my time up between the two houses.  I think I did pretty good at it, but honestly I can't really remember.

After college, I stayed in Charlotte...3 hours from "home".  Without the long summer and winter breaks I had in college, my weekends were the only times I could go home...2 days at most.  That meant one day at mom's, and one day at dad's.  The worst part?  Christmas.  We have it down to a science now though...at least until I have a family of my own.  Christmas Eve is Mom's...Christmas Day is Dad's.  It's been that way for nearly 18 years now...and like I said it "works".  Now, do I love spending the holiday on the road back and forth from house to house?  No.  But I love my family and want to spend the time with them, so I suck it up, load up the car and fill up the tank (2 and 3 times).

Present day trips home consist of still splitting the time up equally.  I cannot think of a time I went home and didn't see both my parents.  I'm good at it...I'm an equal opportunity daughter.

Ok, so now that you have the background...let's get back to the weekend that may or may not have changed my life.

Saturday afternoon I packed my new car up and drove the 45 minutes to my mom's house.  We chatted about mine and Daddy's day in the boat and then realized we both needed a drink and some food!  Mom, Gerry and I went to their favorite restaurant, Crave, near their house.  Think "Cheers"...where everybody knows your name...but way more upscale!  Any who, we sat, ate, drank and laughed for a couple of hours.  I left the bar and went to meet up with a friend.  This is not just any friend...he's someone who I have always had a chemistry with...no matter how long it had been since we had seen each other.

Ok, so for the sake of not making this blog be completely transparent, we're going to call the mystery man "Dude".  I can't tell you all my secrets!

Dude and I have been friends for about 11 years now.  For a long time, we were practically inseparable!  Dude had surgery and was on bed rest for a long time at one point and I remember going and sitting with him for hours and just talking about anything and everything.  Sometimes, while I was in college, we would go months without even talking - but all it took was a phone call when I was in town and we always picked up where we left off.  We joked that we had a schedule of not talking for long periods and how when one of us broke and called the other we were overdue for a meeting.  Every time we saw each other it was like we never were apart...we just picked up where we left off and both of us were okay with that.  Dude is one of very few friends who came to visit me while I was in college...and that means more now than I thought it did back then.

I know I’m giving you a lot of information here, but I’m on a roll…call me butter.

Sunday was my mom and stepdad's 12th wedding anniversary and I was so happy to be able to celebrate with them.  We went to the beach and relaxed for most of the day.  It's funny, I remember being a kid and BEGGING my mom to come get in the ocean with me...and now she's the one wanting to play!  We sat in a gully and had mother-daughter time.  We talked about one thing and one thing only...how much she wishes I still lived in Charleston.  Ok, so far this weekend I've been told by 4 people that they wished I lived in Charleston...and I agree with every single one of them.

We even went as far as talking about me buying Gerry’s mother’s condo on James Island.  The more we talked about it, the more I got excited about it, and the more I got excited about it – the more I realized that this is a HUGE decision.  Not only do I need to figure out if I can work from “home” – which I know I can (technically speaking), but I have to find a place to live.  Career change and a first home purchase all in one package?  I don’t know if I can handle something like this!   If I knew for a fact that I could keep my job, work from a home office and find a decent home that I can afford, I’d be packing tomorrow.

I miss my family.  I miss the ocean.  I miss everything about Charleston…I have ever since the day I left.  I have been talking myself into making Charlotte/Rock Hill home for about 5 years now.  This is not home.  This is where I live.  When people ask “how’s Charlotte/Rock Hill?”  I usually reply “It’s not Charleston".

Don’t get me wrong.  I love my friends in Charlotte/Rock Hill.  Most of them are college friends that (also) never left the area.  We have a great time, and I know they’d be there for me in an instant if I needed them…and vice versa.  I also know that said friends would also love to have a place to visit in Charleston.  Wink Wink.  I don’t have any doubt that the friends that I have here wouldn’t remain just as close to me if I were not living in Rock Hill.  So far, my job is the only thing that holds me back in Charlotte.  That and my apartment lease (until April).

SO, I’m almost 28 years old.  Not married.  No kids.  No pets.  Not a homeowner.  I’m like a blank canvas.  I need to start a masterpiece…and the background to this piece of artwork is a Charleston skyline.

Stay tuned for more in the Lindsey Saga.  It’s going to be a slow process, but the ultimate ending would be a TRULY happy Lindsey surrounded by her family in the Holy City.

Threeve (a combination of 3 and 5)

In the past 3 days I've been contacted by 3 of my exes, had a 300 lb man buy me a drink, and had a man 3 times older than me give me his number.

I think it's time for a new lucky number.

The glass half full in me says: at least my lucky number wasn't 5!  Then I'd have 5 exes texting me, a 500 lb man buying drinks and a man 5 times older than me giving me his digits.

No Country for Old Dudes

I've come to a conclusion - old dudes like to talk to me.  I'm not really sure why.  Is it because they find me attractive and continue to talk to me after I'm far past "Hello, yes that bar stool is open"?  Or is it because when I talk to someone I'm not even remotely interested in I can speak more freely?

There's several "Old Dude Categories".  And as always, these discoveries are based on real life experiences:

The "legitimately-sweet-lonely-old-dude":  These are rare, and when you find one you should at least smile at them.  The little act of smiling at a lonely old dude really does make his day.  A long time ago, a friend and I were sitting at a bar having appetizers and drinks.  The guy next to us started talking to us, and we continued talking to him for over an hour.  Random things, nothing in particular.  He left and we waved goodbye.  When it was time for us to leave we asked for our tabs.  The bartender told us that the guy next to us had paid for all of our food and drinks.  He told the bartender to tell us that we reminded him of his daughters.  Now that's a generous, sweet, lonely, old dude.   Even if you don't buy my dinner or drinks, if you're there for conversation - I'll be glad to talk to you...until someone more interesting walks in.  (just being honest)

The "you-remind-me-of-my-daughter-now-I'm going-to-flirt-with-you-old-dude":  Ok, so the title in itself is creepy...and actually these guys are bordering the line of disturbing.  I find it really odd that someone would actually think that "you remind me of my daughter" would be a good pick up line.  Hey Mr. Old Dude, if you're going to use this line - think about how your daughter (that I apparently remind you of) would feel if another old dude approached her with this crap!  These men are silent assassins - they reel you in to make you think they're the legitimately-sweet-lonely-old-dude, and then they strike as the creepy old dude after you're hooked.  Gross.

The "old-dude-that-stares-at-you-across-the-room":  I don't know what's worse - approaching me and talking to me and telling me I remind you of your daughter, or just staring at me.  Creepy staring - like you're going to go all Buffalo Bill on me and stick me in a hole in your basement.  "It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again."  I want nothing to do with you - and I may just make a really ugly face at you next time I catch you staring.

The "overly-confident-old-dude":  This guy is going to talk to you like he really thinks he has a chance.  He will tell you he's divorced, he will brag about his money and cars, and will ultimately buy you a drink.  Take it...it's free.  But know this, he's so confident that he can get you he will annoy you all night!  Later on in the night, his child will show up - his child that is the same age, if not older than you.  On one occasion, I actually had the overly-confident-old-dude introduce me to his overly-confident-young-son.  This was not "hey, yall are the same age, you should talk"...nope...this was "check out this chick I just found to annoy".  I don't care if you're rich - you're old.  Period.

There are plenty more categories, but I'm so grossed out right now I can't continue thinking or writing about it.  So to all you old dudes out there, not all of us young chicks want a sugar daddy.  If you're into gold diggers, who "remind you of your daughter" (yuck) please,  get out of my bars - the skanks are looking for you elsewhere.
